The Marketing Myths We Wish Would Disappear by BoostBC

If I had a dollar for every time I heard some of these marketing "rules," I'd probably have enough to buy everyone

on the team a coffee... and maybe even lunch."

Marketing advice is everywhere. Your neighbour has an opinion. Your cousin who watched three YouTube videos suddenly became an expert. Someone on social media insists they cracked "the algorithm." Before long, you're wondering if you need to post 14 times a day while standing on one foot.

So, let's bust a few of our favourite marketing myths once and for all.

Myth #1: "Posting every day guarantees sales."

If only it were that easy.

Posting consistently is important, but simply filling your feed doesn't magically fill your bank account. We've all seen businesses post every single day... and somehow still get three likes, one from their mom, one from an employee, and

posting everyday garantees sales

one accidental tap.

Quality always beats quantity. Content that connects with your audience will outperform daily posts that don't offer value.

Myth #2: "SEO is dead."

SEO has apparently "died" every year for the last decade.

Yet somehow, people are still searching Google every single day. Funny how that works.

SEO has definitely evolved, but it's far from gone. Great content, fast websites, helpful information, and answering the questions your customers are already asking still matter. Search engines simply keep getting better at rewarding businesses that genuinely help people.

I don't Need a website because I have social media?

Myth #3: "I don't need a website because I have social media."

Social media is fantastic... until an algorithm changes, your account gets hacked, or a platform decides your posts suddenly belong in witness protection.

Your website is the one piece of digital real estate you actually own. Social media should invite people to your business. Your website is where they decide to trust you, learn more, and hopefully become customers.

Myth #4: "Boosting posts is the same as running ads."

This one makes marketers everywhere sigh just a little.

Boosting a post is like tossing a flyer into the wind and hoping it lands in the right hands. Running a properly built advertising campaign is more like handing that flyer directly to someone who's already looking for exactly what you offer.

Both have their place, but they definitely aren't the same thing.

Marketing Should work Instantly

Myth #5: "Marketing should work instantly."

We wish.

Marketing isn't a microwave. It's more like planting a garden. You prepare the soil, plant the seeds, water consistently, and over time, things begin to grow.

The businesses that see the biggest results are usually the ones that stay consistent, learn what works, and keep showing up even when the results aren't immediate.

The Bottom Line

The internet is full of marketing advice, and not all of it deserves your attention. The best marketing isn't built on shortcuts, secret hacks, or viral promises. It's built on understanding your audience, creating value, showing up consistently, and making it easy for people to choose your business.

So the next time someone confidently tells you that SEO is dead, websites don't matter, or one boosted post will make you famous overnight... just smile, nod, and maybe keep scrolling.
